I've been instrumental in helping with four family deaths; Grampa Fred at age 15, Grandma Marie in 1993, my dad in 2004 and mom in 2014. I've also helped close friends and a few acquaintances with their processes of watching and helping their parent's cross over. With my father's passing, I was the most involved.
He and I spent the last three months of his life with me talking to him about what to expect when he got to heaven. He was unable to speak at this point, but he listened and would nod his head when I asked if he understood.
I helped him embrace the new and curious sights and sounds he was experiencing and explained how and why he was interacting with family members he had thought long gone.
Mom and Dad's 50th Anniversary- 2002
On the morning of Wednesday, September 15, 2004, as I was getting ready to go and be with dad, and as mom was walking her dog, Hattie, continuing her journey on this earthly plane, dad chose the eternal path. He died peacefully in his sleep, at home, as we all had prayed and just the way he wanted.
The important thing to remember is that we still have relationships with our passed loved ones. I'm still his daughter and he's still my dad. Nothing, not even death, will ever change this.
